As another reviewer noted, Ms. Mortimer describes quite accurately the processes the body goes through with brain cancer. The descriptions are so "right on" that I found myself reliving the experience when a close family member developed the same type of tumor. The main characters ... Dan, Cheryl, Amelia, Michel, ... even Becky ... were so well done that these people came alive. That gave their place in the story that much more impact. A lovely tale, beautifully told, with a just-right conclusion. I have found a new-to-me author and have already purchased another of her books.Product details

A Very Distant Affair
Having read The Green Room by Ms Mortimer, I was eager to try a different genre by her when I was asked to review A Very Distant Affair.
In the book we meet Cheryl, an artist who was swept off her feet by Dan when she was a struggling artist, living hand to mouth. Fast forward twenty years and she's successful in her field, has everything she could dream of, and Dan handles all her business affairs. Dan handles everything, he's beyond controlling and Cheryl begins to question if there's more to life.
I really enjoyed this book. A Very Distant Affair is a great holiday read, it's a gripping page turner that really draws you into the story. I could picture the scenery vividly and it was beautiful-I want to go to Michel's hotel! The characters are also very real, I felt genuine angst and empathy for Cheryl, and Dan, well I could have smacked him!!
I would highly recommend this book, it's a wonderful read that can be read as a standalone even though it's the fourth in Ms Mortimer's series. I'm now going to grab the first three!!

This is the 4th book in the series but I believe they are all stand alone, grouped by theme rather than storyline/characters so in this case it is not necessary to read books 1-3 first. Indeed, I haven't but after reading this one, I will definitely be rectifying that error!
So, we meet Cheryl, an artist who is managed by her husband Daniel. They have been together for years and she has totally surrendered control of both her professional and personal life over to him. Then, at a friend's party, she meets Michel a French Aussie and, lets just say, her initial reaction to him is a little extreme and surprising. But, it gets her thinking and she slowly starts to try to get her own life back. Then, just when it looks like she is regaining her own identity and working out what she wants, something happens that knocks her off her feet. But, that isn't the end, how many more secrets are there to uncover?
Oh I did enjoy this book. I whizzed through it at a rate of knots, completely captivated by pretty much everything characters; setting; storyline. It ticked every box I wanted from a read at that time.
I have come to realise that, although I favour thrillers and crime books on the whole, it is actually good characters that make or break a book for me rather than actual genre so I think this is why I enjoyed this book so much because Ms Mortimer does write a good character. Oh, I didn't like them all, some were quite distasteful but I emoted with every single one, those connections formed very early on in the book and remaining throughout. Obviously, due to the story, I changed my mind about a few, several times even, but hey, that happens in real life too.
The story was very gripping. I really got all caught up and have to admit to shouting at certain characters at certain times. I got a bit over-involved truth be told! And a bit emotional too. And angry, sometimes very angry.
And oh, the setting was lovely. Where do I go to book a holiday at the winery? I want to go there!
All in all, this was an easy read for me but it had lots of substance. As already mentioned, I am going to go back and play catch up with this series.

I have enjoyed the first three books in the series, and I got this one as soon as it was available Once again, I was not disappointed. This author knows how to write a story with characters and a story line that certainly kept me reading. The story is a wonderful romance with twists and turns that I very definitely enjoyed. Faith is one of my favorite authors, and she has written another good one. I will certainly be looking for her next book.
I've often wanted to ask Faith more about her life. Once again she has brought forth the tale of an "affair" filled with surprising twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages. Filled with emotions which many of us can relate, Faith pens from her amazing imagination a tale of love, lust, unfaithfulness besieged by guilt, and an ending which will bring elation and surprise.
